What is thermography?

There are several different types of thermography. They range from the industrial through clinical and to veterinary/equine uses.

Clinical thermography, also known as Medical Infrared Imaging, is the use of an FDA approved camera system to make images based off the heat being emitted from a warm body. Many pain, inflammatory, and cancer processes ultimately force the body to emit more heat than normal.

Thermography Uses

Thermography is a non-invasive adjunctive imaging modality for detecting and monitoring a number of diseases and physical injuries by showing thermal abnormalities present in the body. It is the only method available for "visualizing" your pain.

It is used as an aid for diagnosis and prognosis, as well as monitoring therapy progress for conditions and injuries including:

  • Breast Cancer

  • Back Injuries

  • Arthritis

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Unexplained Pain

  • Dental and TMJ

  • Circulation Problems

  • Inflammatory Pain

  • Referred Pain Syndrome

  • Soft Tissue Injuries

  • Sports Injuries

  • Repetitive Sprain/Strain Injuries

  • Stroke

  • Thyroid Disorders

  • Diabetes

  • and many more!

1.

Breast Thermography has been approved by the FDA as an adjunctive imaging tool since 1982

2.

An abnormal thermogram is 10 times more significant as a future risk indicator for breast cancer than a first order family history of the disease.

3.

A persistent abnormal thermogram carries with it a 22x higher risk of future breast cancer. An abnormal infrared image is the single most important marker of high risk for developing breast cancer.

4.

Breast thermography has the ability to detect the first signs that a cancer may be forming up to 10 years before any other procedure can detect it.

5.

All thermograms performed by Radiance Thermography are interpreted by a board certified thermologist.

The Technology

A medical infrared imaging camera isn't just any old camera, and our camera isn't just any old MIR camera.

In order for an IR camera to be used in medical imaging, it must meet or exceed certain guidelines and pass rigorous tests before being FDA-approved. Each camera manufacturer has their own unique FDA 510k statement specifiyng its use. The more specific, the better.

We use Spectron IR camera systems. Their system specifications exceed the FDA and professional guidelines. They also have the most specific medical uses in the industry.

Disclaimer: Breast thermography is not a replacement or alternative for mammography or any other form of breast imaging. Breast thermography is meant to be used in addition to mammography and other tests. Breast thermography and mammography are complementary procedures, one does not replace the other.
